Human and Ecosystem Essay

Ecosystem consist of the animals, plants and the environmental conditions of an area. Is a community of living and non-living things that work together.

If ecosystems were completely disrupted, then life would change drastically for the humans and animals in the world. Some people might not think that it is worth it to try to save the different ecosystems. However, it is very important. Nowadays, almost none of us, realize that human activity really cause significant damage to ecosystems. I agree that our activities cause permanent changes to ecosystems and I will try to cite some examples, supporting my thesis.

To begin with humans often need to burn fuels or produce certain chemicals to sustain a variety of activities in society. Burning fuels and manufacturing chemicals also can produce pollutants, including wastes like trash or hazardous chemicals and atmospheric pollutants like sulfur dioxide or nitrogen oxides. Pollutants can kill or harm organisms in ecosystems, gradually causing the ecosystem to deteriorate.

Secondly, we sometimes hunt and poach animals for food, sport or their supposed medicinal properties. They are constantly being hunted for their furs and skin. Many have become endangered because of this. People do not realize how important animals really are to us and nature. Hunting is a disputed issue because in some point it is helpful. Hunting can equalize number of members in the flock.

Furthermore, resource extraction is also a big problem. Many ecosystems are rich in natural resources like nutrient-rich soil, water, wood and fossil fuels . Excessive efforts to extract these resources like mining, logging and oil drilling contribute to ecosystem destruction.

In woodlands, for example, trees give some animals food and shelter. They are also really important for us, because they convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. The process is called photosynthesis. If all the trees in the world were destroyed, there would not be oxygen, so we would die.

On the other hand, many human activities have positive effects for the natural world too, such as recycling, composting and conservation. Unfortunately it seems that we do more harm than good.

All things consider, I agree that human activities cause permanent changes to ecosystems, but there are a lot of reasons to keep ecosystem running smoothly. Not the least of these is the fact that humans would probably die out without natural ecosystems to keep nature in order. We should remember how important ecosystems are to our world. It is not like we all have somewhere else to go if things don’t work out here on earth.
